if you follow me on IG then you already saw this silly selfie that i posted, but i wanted to expound my thoughts about this little campaign here on this blog.
hailey devine is one of my favorite bloggers/social media people + when i saw her post about this i knew that i wanted to join. she said, "in the world that we live in today, we are our own worst critic ...Especially through social media. It's good to remember that we need to be nice to everybody including ourselves."
her whole campaign is to promote kindness to yourself(ie) by posting a selfie on IG, answering the question "how are you being nice to your selfie?" and then liking the post + using the hashtag #benicetoyourselfie.
i want to explain my personal post; the picture that i chose is quite silly + not what i would typically post....since being in switzerland i haven't been able to straighten/curl my hair (this is a big deal to me for some reason), i don't spend more than 5 minutes on my makeup (in order to sleep in a bit longer), i wear comfy clothes that i can play with kiddos in, AND i was having an emotional breakdown before i snapped the selfie. BUT it was a moment that i want to remember + share. when maren made me that chocolate milkshake it brightened my mood + put a silly smile on my face. it made me want to take a picture and document the happy moment during my hard day. i ultimately wanted to share this specific selfie as a personal reminder that it's the simple things in life that matter. (like chocolate milkshakes, of course!) not the way we look. not the number of likes/comments we get. not the amount of makeup we have on. not the quality of our picture.
IT'S about capturing each moment in life + realizing that there is beauty all around.
it is SO easy to only see the flaws when we look in the mirror, or to hold back from posting a picture because we don't look "our best" or we don't weigh a certain amount.
it is SO easy to get lost in comparison. it is SO easy to feel insignificant. it is SO easy to get discouraged + caught up in the things that don't matter.
it is during times in my life, like this adventure right now, where i often feel like i am not enough, like i could be doing so much better, like maybe i am not fit for this job, BUT i testify that these thoughts and feelings do NOT come from a loving Heavenly Father. instead He tells us that we ARE more than enough, we CAN do hard things, and we ARE fit for the tasks at hand.
i LOVE the quote that says "comparison is the theif of joy." and oh, how true that is!!
it is time to stop comparing our lives, our pictures, and our own self worth to that of others.
you are enough. i am enough. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL + so are YOU!
it's not always easy to be nice ourself(ies), but it is possible. (: (:
SO...with that said how are YOU nice to yourself(ie)??????
Will you join by posting a picture on IG + following the steps to be a part of a wonderful campaign?
i think it is a wonderful reminder + a fun way to rethink the way we treat others + ourselves. start with me today + #benicetoyourselfie !!
